This sandy area, which stretches for about 2.5 kilometers and is 17 meters wide, annually attracts a large number of tourists, both Spanish and foreign, who want to enjoy an exceptional landscape and nature.

Punta Paloma beach is located at the end of the Tarifa beaches. It is very easy to recognize from afar thanks to its huge sand dune that is formed thanks to the easterly winds that drag its golden sand to the shore. This almost virgin and rustic beach is surrounded by trees and each small bay has a personality and a special charm that make them unique. With fine sand and moderate waves, it has small constructions that are not invasive in the landscape. On the other hand, it also offers unparalleled views of Tarifa and Morocco, which makes it one of the best beaches in the area for both bathers and lovers of surfing or windsurfing.

Between Bolonia and Valdevaqueros there was a watchtower some time ago, of which not even the ruins remain today, although this tower continues to give its name to a place name: Torre Paloma, which you will surely see if you are around the area.

Beach Services

The Punta Paloma Beach in Tarifa is one of the few natural spaces that is preserved almost in its wild state, this gives it a charm that attracts travelers looking for more natural places. On this beach, contrary to many other beaches on the Spanish coast, there are no showers or toilets, so it is necessary to go down with what is necessary to spend the day on the beach. There is also no place where you can rent the necessary equipment for surfing or windsurfing, so you will have to bring it yourself or rent it in the nearest places.

Off the beach, but very close to it, there is a campsite, the Punta Paloma Campsite, for those who decide to spend several days in the area and enjoy this charismatic enclave. A little further away there are also accommodations for rent in the Sierra de San Bartolo or in Villa Betis if you don’t want to have to take so many car rides from Tarifa.

Interestingly, there is a beach bar inside the military zone where they serve quite good food according to different opinions online. To access, it will be enough to show your identity document at the entrance to the venue.

Finally, due to its ease of access, there is a Red Cross assistance service in case of emergency.

There is a place on the beach where there is mud that is said to be beneficial for the skin, so some people tend to take the opportunity to get some. It is quite common to see people walking on the beach with their bodies covered in mud.

As for parking services, the most frequent place is behind the dune, but there is also a large car park in front of the Punta Paloma campsite.

Sports in Punta Paloma

For surf lovers, not all of Punta Paloma beach can be enjoyed in this practice. At the end of the bay, you will be able to find a point where you will see some surfers, but there are quite a few rocks, so you should know the beach and have a fairly advanced level in this sport.

Those of you who enjoy windsurfing will be able to enjoy the waves of this beach as long as you are willing to carry your equipment from a long way away, since the area is where you park and the beach is a considerable distance and you can only carry the equipment by hand.

On the other hand, if you are one of those who prefers kitesurfing, you can take your equipment and enjoy your favorite sport in the direction of Valdevaqueros, since further away you will not be able to have enough space, so you will surely alternate with other beaches in the area if you decide to spend the summer there.
